Daniel's Story

Daniel Hope served four years in prison for criminal possession of an illegal substance. After he completed his sentence and was released, he realized that the nature of his crime destroyed some of his family ties, which left him without a permanent place to live. He wandered from place to place which made him vulnerable to being re-exposed to the streets. His final alternative was a transitional house, where he picked up a pamphlet for our program. He thought Exodus would be a safe haven from the streets and immediately enrolled. Mr. Hope soon realized that Exodus’ positive environment made him feel grounded and he sought help to begin changing his past behavior. After learning appropriate work behaviors, along with other life skills, he was matched with a job developer that saw his potential and requested to place him in an in-house internship position.

Throughout the internship period, Mr. Hope proved to be focused and excelled at his tasks, which impressed the staff at Exodus. Soon after his internship ended, he was offered a full time position as an Employment Specialist, a title he has held since January 2011. He uses his position as an outlet to keep him focused and feels that “without Exodus he would still be involved in his past lifestyle.” Mr. Hope is extremely grateful to Exodus for helping him alternate his past mindset and for fueling his interest in re-entry work. He enjoys helping those that were once in his shoes and though, he doesn’t know what he wants to pursue in the long-term, he is certain that it will involve helping people that want a second chance at life.
