Comptroller, John Liu, visited Exodus Transitional Community, Inc. in East Harlem today to encourage those in the reentry process to stay focused on the future. He Liu spoke to staff and participants about his experience and challenges in the public arena and provided them with inspiration as they embark on their journeys. He motivated everyone to follow their passion and never lose sight of their dreams. “We need make sure that economic opportunities are available for everyone”, said John Liu. This was particularly relevant for the IMPACT participants who are enrolled in our 12-week Career Initiative that is comprised of a series of lectures, exercises, and group interaction that will prepare these individuals for their respective career goals.

In attendance were Robert Dennison, former parole commissioner, Angie Jimenez, Deputy Dir. NYS for Community Supervision, and Rossana Rosado, Publisher & CEO, El Diario La Prensa. Liu acknowledged that many of us have made mistakes, “but you have paid for them and now it’s time to own your future”.

Founded in 1999, by Executive Director Julio Medina, Exodus Transitional Community is a grassroots organization built on the notion that individuals released from prison cannot be released into mainstream society without any resources to support their transition. Our focus is to assist formerly incarcerated men and women in all aspects of their transition back into their communities. We are also committed to help communities affected by mass incarceration, break the cycle of crime and recidivism.
