Matteo cappacio, wellness center clinic director
Matteo Capaccio, ACSW, LCSW, R, joined the Exodus Wellness Team as Clinic Director in June 2018. He is a Native New Yorker who has successfully turned a misspent youth and early adulthood (1972-1989) into his life’s mission to advocate for social justice and to help empower society’s (deemed) “Throw-Aways” to reclaim their dignity, as well as their rightful place as productive members of their communities.
After spending numerous stretches of time — accumulating approximately 8 years in various substance-use rehabs, in-patient psychiatric and criminal justice institutions — in 1992 (after 20 years) he decided that he wanted to give back and enrolled at Audrey Cohen College School of Human Services, while working full-time in one of the oldest and respected agencies in NYC that services the Severely and Persistently Mentally Ill (SPMI) adult population.
Mr. Capaccio served on the Board of Directors at Hunter College School of Social Work’s Alumni Association from 2002-2008, and has been a volunteer member with the Medical Reserve Corps since 2006. He has received several awards, achievements and honors throughout his illustrious career.
In an effort to retain his daring attitude and the high energy experience he enjoys, formerly produced by chronic substance-use, he has successfully completed six NYC Marathons since 1995, and has become an avid sky diver. He’s grateful to have made tremendous strides since then, and continues to persevere today. “Be ashamed to die, until you have won some victory for humanity.” ~Horace Mann
