ugo machuca, director of Youth & family development

For the past eighteen years, Ugo has been passionately involved in working for and on behalf of at-risk populations. Two of his favorite accomplishments was helping start a youth diversion program called Convicts Reaching Out to People (CROP) at Lancaster State Prison. In collaboration with youth-focused nonprofit organizations from all over the County, as well as with various law enforcement agencies, to bring youth into the prison to participate in CROP’s powerful presentations.

Another favorite role was being Program Manager and Co-founder of the GYST (Get Your Stuff Together) program at Youth Mentoring in Los Angeles. The GYST motto is: If you don’t go after what you want, you’ll never have it. If you don’t ask, the answer is always no. If you don’t step forward, you’re always in the same place. This is also the way Ugo is trying to live his life.  

Ugo’s restorative justice work and training in Ca. have been, Council Training 1 & 2 Introduction to Council  2010, HBI- VOEG Restorative Justice Facilitator Certification 2010-11-12, Calif. Conference For Equality And Justice RCC Volunteer 2014-15

Ugo’s past employment includes positions at The Catalyst Foundation as a certified HIV counselor, at Homeboy Industries as a STAR-program coordinator, and as Case Manager for Friends Outside Los Angeles County Dad’s Back! Program. In New York, Ugo worked at Defy Ventures as Employment Manager and POTS as an Employment Case Manager in the Bronx.
