NYC BAIL SETTLEMENT

There is a Settlement in a class action lawsuit that claims the City of New York violated the law when it delayed releasing people after their bail was paid. The City denies it did anything wrong.

The Settlement includes individuals (also called Class Members) in the custody of the New York Department of Corrections, who were released on bail at least once between October 4, 2014 and October 21, 2022, who reasonably believe their release may have been delayed at least 3 hours after their bail was paid.

Even if you do nothing, if you are a Class Member, you will be bound by the Court’s decisions. If you want to keep your right to sue the City of New York, your request to exclude yourself from the Settlement must be received by June 6, 2023. If you want to stay in the Settlement but want to object to its terms, your objection must be received by June 6, 2023.
