In October 2020, Exodus Transitional Community launched its Alternative to Incarceration (ATI) program in NYC, offering a trauma-informed and community-based option for individuals facing court-mandated support requirements. ATI programming spans 4, 6, or 12 months depending on judicial mandates and is designed as a comprehensive intervention for those involved in the justice system.

At the core of the ATI program is transformative mentoring, delivered through group sessions rooted in the Sanctuary Curriculum S.E.L.F. model. This approach helps participants explore four key domains essential to healing: Safety, Emotional Management, Loss, and Future. The model guides individuals to reflect on past trauma, identify emotional triggers, and develop tools for resilience and forward progress.

The ATI program integrates a wide array of support services that reflect a holistic approach to reentry and recovery. Justice-involved program participants benefit from substance use treatment, workforce development for reentry, and skill-building workshops that prepare them to thrive both personally and professionally. Civic engagement and leadership development workshops empower individuals to find their voice, reconnect with community values, and build pathways to meaningful social change.

Whether through conflict resolution, effective communication, or developing short- and long-term goals, the ATI program ensures that participants are supported at every level of their reentry journey.
